City of Frankfurt wins dispute over frankfurt.EU

The city of Frankfurt, Germany has won a dispute over the domain name frankfurt.eu. Just before the start of the .eu sunrise period last year, the registrant had filed a trademark application for "FRANKF & URT" with the Benelux Trademark Office. The dispute panel found that owning the trademark did not give the applicant prior rights in the domain name frankfurt.eu, as required by the rules for sunrise registrations. Similar rulings have been made concerning "BARC & ELONA" and "LI & VE".
