Gmail.cn, il dominio dedicato a Gmail in Cina, è stato registrato da una società con sede a Pechino. Gmail per Google è un prodotto chiave.

Anche gli altri domini cinesi (.CN) corrispondenti a prodotti o servizi del famoso motore di ricerca, sotto il suffisso .CN sono stati registrati da persone o società che niente hanno a che fare con Google.

In passato Google aveva recuperato i domini google.com.cn e google.cn a caro prezzo.

Ormai non è più strano che i Cybersquatters siano diventati sempre più precisi e rapidi nel registrare i domini corrispondenti a nomi più o meno famosi.
E' quindi assolutamente necessario definire una strategia di difesa dei propri marchi, nomi e brands a lungo termine, sia in relazione ai mercati già presidiati sia sui mercati potenziali.

"Gmail.cn", the domain name for Gmail in China, has been registered by a Beijing-based company instead. Gmail is a key product of Google.

In fact, almost all the CN domain names for Google's such products have been registered by others.

Launching Gmail in April 2004, Google registered "gmail.com.cn". However, gmail.cn was registered by a Beijing-based company as early as in August 2003.

Experts say, the time of the registration of "gmail.cn" was far earlier than the debut of Google's Gmail, so the possibility for the CN domain name to be recovered is rather slim unless the registration was vicious.

Months ago, Google recovered two domain names, i.e. "google.com.cn" and "google.cn" at high prices, but its troubles are far from this. It is shown at China Internet Network Information Center that the CN domain names for GoogleTalk, Google Earth, Googlelocal, etc. have all been registered by others.

Among the investor registers, there is the far-sighted such as a Guangdong-based company, who registered "googlelocal.cn" and "googlelocal.com.cn" in March 2004, far earlier than the one-week old GoogleLocal.

There are also others who did it after the news on Google's redeeming the domain names with one million yuan was released. They registered "googlemap.cn" and "googleearth.cn". The time of the registration of "googletalk.cn" and "googletalk.com.cn" was along side with the official appearance of GoogleTalk. It is really surprising that the registers could be so precise and fast.

The so called Sunrise Period, which anticipates the total liberalization of second level spanish domains, was started by NIC ES last June.

The first phase of the Sunrise Period, dedicated to Public Corporations, ended on the seventh of July, whereas the second phase of the Sunrise Period will start tomorrow (6 September) and will terminate on 21 October.

In this phase, requesting .eu domains will be possible for the following categories:

1) Foundations, associations or societies registered in Spain. These categories will be able to register domain names corresponding to the complete name of their society. Names corresponding to abbreviations of the entire society name are also allowed, as long as they clearly identify that society name only.

2) Owners or licensees of registered commercial names and registered trademarks, either Spanish or foreigners, owners of denominations of origin or other rights of industrial property protected in Spain. These categories will be able to register domain names corresponding to their commercial name, trademark or denomination of origin. In case of text trademark, the domain name will have to be corresponding to the trademark. In case of figurative trademark, the domain name will have to be corresponding to the distinctive part of the trademark.

Requests will be processed according to the "first come, first served " principle: in case of several applicants having the same right to a domain name, that domain name will be assigned to the applicant who first requested that name.

Il NIC ES ha dato inizio lo scorso Giugno ad un Sunrise Period che precede l'effettiva liberalizzazione dei domini di secondo livello .es. La prima fase del Sunrise Period si è conclusa il 7 luglio ed era dedicata alle amministrazioni pubbliche.

Da oggi, 6 settembre 2005, inizia la seconda fase del Sunrise Period, che terminerà il 21 ottobre.

In questa fase potranno richiedere domini .es:

1) Fondazioni, associazioni o società registrate in Spagna, che potranno registrare domini che corrispondano o al nome completo della società o ad una sua abbreviazione che però identifichi la società in modo inconfondibile.

2) Proprietari o licenziatari (spagnoli o stranieri) di nomi commerciali o di marchi registrati, denominazione di origine o altri diritti di proprietà industriale protetti in Spagna, che potranno registrare il dominio corrispondente al nome commerciale o al marchio o alla denominazione di origine.

Se si tratta di un marchio di testo il dominio dovrà corrispondere al marchio. Se si tratta di un marchio figurativo il dominio deve corrispondere alla parte distintiva del marchio.

Le richieste saranno processate secondo il principio del "first come first served", cioè in presenza di più richieste per lo stesso nome, a parità di requisiti, il dominio sarà assegnato a chi lo richiederà per primo.
